Benefits of Being An Employee-Owned Business

It's been an incredible two years since Galaxy Insulation and Dry Lining became an employee-owned business, and we want to celebrate this milestone with our dedicated employees, valued customers, and supportive partners. Since becoming an employee-owned business, we have seen some great changes to the way we do business. We are excited to share what this has meant for our company, our people, and our community.

What Does Employee Ownership Mean to Galaxy?

Two years ago, we launched the Galaxy Employee Trust to give every member of our team a meaningful stake in the company’s success. Being employee-owned means that every one of us is more than just an employee, we are beneficiaries of the trust, with a real voice in shaping the direction of the business. This aligns perfectly with our commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and ensuring that everyone benefits from our hard work and dedication.

We want to create a legacy to ensure the Galaxy name we’ve built together lives on. Through employee ownership we believe that everyone has a vested interest in the success of the company.

Here Are The Benefits We Have Seen for Our Employee Trust Members

Through engagement surveys and feedback from our employee trust members, we've introduced a range of new benefits to support our team, including:

  • Increased Annual Leave – We have given our employees more time to relax and recharge so their productivity can increase! A relaxed and happy employee is better in the long run.
  • Salary Sacrifice Schemes for Pensions and Electric Vehicles – We are helping our employees plan for the future and helping them reduce their carbon footprint.
  • Free Financial Wellbeing Plans and Advice – Offering peace of mind and support for our employees personal financial management.
  • Enhanced Parental Policies – So we can provide better support for our employees' families.
  • Free Health Plans – We have also made sure our employees have access to quality healthcare.

These initiatives are just the beginning, and as we continue to grow our business together, we hope to introduce even more benefits for our trust members in the future based on what matters to them.

Greater Job Security and Stability

Since 2020, the job market has been challenging. But since becoming employee owned, we have been able to give our teams greater job security. This also means we are able to have greater dependability and consistency for our customers too.

A Real Voice in Decision-Making

Employee ownership has also given our team a genuine voice in how we operate. Through our employee council reps—elected by our trust members to represent each branch or location—we have created a direct line of communication between all employees and the board of directors. These representatives meet regularly and provide valuable input on decisions that affect our business, from improving operations to shaping future strategies.

Driving Innovation and Sustainability

Our people have been the driving force behind our business's progress. Whether it's suggestions to improve our ways of working, expanding our range of products and services, or contributing to our environmental initiatives—like the adoption of electric trucks—these ideas have all come from our team.

In the past two years, we have elected our employee council and trustees, everyone in the company is represented by the employee council who act as a channel of communication between employees and senior management. Giving employees an opportunity to think like owners and be involved in decision making around the direction of the company, gives employees a real voice and the chance to influence how we can improve the way we do things.

Our goal is to create the best long-term experience for everyone that orbits our group – employee trust members, customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

So, whether it’s being carbon neutral for the fourth year running, our FORS accreditation or our charity partnership with the Children’s Hospital Charity everything we do is driven by our values and our people..

 A Future Built Together

As we celebrate our second year of employee ownership, we are more excited than ever about the future. The changes we have made and the benefits we have seen confirm that when people are given the opportunity to be a partner  of the business, they become more motivated, engaged, and committed to its success. Together, we will continue to grow, innovate, and make a positive impact in our industry and our communities.

But it is great to look back on how far we have come. From opening our first two branches back in 2009 in Leeds and Sheffield and now having a 14 branch network nationwide, along with our acoustic material manufacturers, Hush Acoustics, who joined the group in 2021.

During that time, we have developed our business in different sectors across interiors, facades, HVAC, fire protection and expert technical services, along with the launch of our GTS app to support our customers with their compliance needs.

Our business has grown naturally, but also having the best people available in the right locations has enabled us to expand; people are at the heart of what we do and it’s the culture that really makes the Galaxy family what it is today.

Thank you to every member of the Galaxy Insulation and Dry Lining and Hush Acoustics team for your dedication and hard work in making our second year as an employee-owned business such a success. Here’s to many more years of shared growth and prosperity!
